I encourage a lot of adventurous moments and curious characteristics in our children. Everything from imagination, to types of books, to making food in the kitchen…..facilitating a love for learning and discovering. A specific combination of trying things, failing, adjusting, pursuing, creativity, and science. There are actual deep discipleship threads in this but that’s way off tract for this post.
Yes I encourage adventure.
I did NOT however, tell him to try sledding off the deck. In fact when we first said “go grab the sled and play out in the backyard”….we ASSUMED he knew not to try to go off the deck (surly he’d face plant) and not to go in the ravine (BLESS he knew that).
But here you have it. He totally did it on his own. We added the helmet after the fact (because no stopping him once we found that fun!!!)
